FAQ

Common questions about mailme.nz — New Zealand email, webmail, apps, and cloud.

Is mailme free?

Email is offered as early access / free tier subject to fair use. Cloud includes 1 GB; larger storage is a paid subscription when billing is enabled.

Where is my data hosted?

In New Zealand where practicable. See the Privacy Policy and NZ-hosted email.

What is a New Zealand hosted email address?

mailme gives you a clean @mailme.nz mailbox with webmail and standard IMAP/SMTP — an independent NZ-focused alternative to global free providers. More: New Zealand hosted email.

I forgot my password

Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. We email a one-hour link to set a new password (the same one for webmail, IMAP and Login with mailme).

How do I open webmail?

mailme.nz/webmail — same password as your account.

How do I add my phone?

See Phone setup or the summary on Email apps. IMAP port 993; SMTP prefer 465 SSL/TLS (or 587 STARTTLS).

How do I set up Thunderbird?

Step-by-step: Thunderbird setup.

Should I use SMTP port 465 or 587?

Both work with mailme. Prefer 465 + SSL/TLS — encryption starts immediately. Use 587 + STARTTLS if that suits your app or network better. More: Email apps.

What is freehosting.nz?

I paid for cloud but still see 1 GB
